Hi! I am a quarter. They made me in 2006. I was originally made in London, England then ended up a little more to the west. First, let me show you how I ended up there. While I was being made by the machine that makes other quarters like me, I was knocked over by somebody elbowing me and I flew on the ground. I was done being made but I had to dry from the hot liquid silver that covered me up. |

The first immigrants to America traveled by ship from Europe. They landed on Ellis Island near New York in 1892. They could only bring so many suitcases because there wasn’t enough room. The immigrants had to do a lot of things when they came to America. Some of the things were learning to read English and to make sure they weren’t sick. Most of the immigrants had large families. They lived in small apartments with only one room. This is where they would eat, have their privacy and have to sleep. Sometimes the kids would have to sleep in the fire exit outside with their brothers and sisters. The kids had to work hard like carrying gallons of water, plates of food and drinks back to their family. Some of them sold food, toys and newspapers to earn money. |

One of my favorite places is at my friend’s cabin in the woods. When I get there I can’t wait to explore. I like to stay outside and look for creatures like lizards, bearded dragons, and squirrels. We always end up building a fort too. That’s where we could put the creatures that we catch. My friend Luke found a skull to help decorate our fort. After we’re done exploring, we head to the store and buy worms with our dads so we can catch crawdads. We hike down a steep mountain carrying our lunches, blankets, earth worms and fishing poles. It takes about 30 minutes to get down to the river where we fish for crawdads. |
