In the early 90's up to 2K, we had a computer bubble. Yes, we invented the BUBBLE (“gaya-gaya lang ang Housing”). We were so in-demand; every corner of the internet had a DOT COM boom. Life was good as numerous H1 visas were approved for a lot of Filipinos. Computer jobs were everywhere. And then the burst, Y2K and .COMS were not really the factors; the market was flooded with computer professionals.  Outsourcing became popular.  Many computer jobs were contracted outside the country for better company profits. Computer professionals were left without jobs and nowhere to go. This affected everyone - not only computer professionals. In Arizona, there were a lot Filipino computer professionals and friends that were displaced and had to relocate or change career. Despite all these turbulences, many of us managed to survive this bubble burst. I encourage fellow Filipino Tekkies in Arizona to take pride in their profession, share their success stories and inspire new and upcoming young professionals or even students to be part of a very much alive computer industry.  As an Arizona resident for 15 years and being in the field information technology, I have yet to find and join a formal organization that dedicates to Filipino computer professionals.  This could be a good time to form alliances and eventually form a group of computer professionals.I think we can help develop a new generation of Filipinos in the valley and be able to survive our ever-changing economic and technology climate. We can help one another whether we are computer professionals or in our own businesses. This is place to start it my fellow Arizonans. This is an open forum and your topics are welcome.
